TOMMY'S SKIPPO (C) COPYRIGHT 1995 BY TOMMY'S TOYS
P. O. BOX 11261, DENVER, CO 80211 USA. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.
CATALOG #TM-156-1A
INSTRUCTIONS:
THIS FUN FAMILY GAME IS PLAYED WITH A PACK OF NUMERAL CARDS AND SEVERAL SKIPPO
(A.K.A. SKIP-BO) CARDS. THE GOAL IS TO GET RID OF ALL OF YOUR CARDS BEFORE THE
OPPONENT. IT CAN BE LEARNED IN MINUTES BUT PLAYED MANY TIMES WITH INCREASING
PLEASURE AS YOU LEARN STRATEGY.
PLAYERS:
THIS GAME CAN BE PLAYED BY 2-4 PLAYERS FOR THEMSELVES, OR BY 2 TEAMS OF 2
PLAYERS IN PARTNERSHIPS. SINCE THERE IS NO WAY THE COMPUTER CAN HIDE ONE
HUMAN PLAYER'S CARDS FROM ANOTHER, TOMMY'S SKIPPO WILL PIT ONE HUMAN PLAYER,
YOU, AGAINST THE COMPUTER IN A 2-PLAYER GAME. YOUR CARDS DISPLAYED AT THE
TOP OF THE SCREEN, THE COMPUTER'S AT THE BOTTOM.
THE DECK:
THE DECK CONSISTS OF 12 SETS OF CARDS NUMBERED 1..12, PLUS 18 SKIPPO CARDS,
FOR A TOTAL OF 144 + 18 = 162.
DEALER:
THE FIRST DEALER IS CHOSEN RANDOMLY BY THE COMPUTER. AFTER THAT IT ALTERNATES.
DEALING:
DEALER DEALS 30 CARDS TO EACH PLAYER FACE-DOWN. THESE CARDS BECOME EACH
PLAYER'S STOCK PILES, AND THE OBJECT OF THE GAME IS TO PLAY ALL OF THEM FIRST.
THE TOP CARD OF EACH STOCK PILE IS TURNED UP. AFTER THE DEAL, THE REMAINING
UNDEALT CARDS BECOME THE DRAW PILE.
BUILDING PILES:
IN THE CENTER OF THE SCREEN ARE THE 4 BUILDING PILES. CARDS MAY BE PLAYED
TO THEM ONLY IN ORDER, STARTING WITH 1 AND BUILDING UP TO 12. A SKIPPO CARD
CAN BE PLAYED AT ANY TIME, SINCE IT IS WILD: IT TAKES THE PLACE OF THE
NECESSARY CARD. ONCE A PILE HAS BEEN COMPLETED (12TH CARD IN PLACE), IT IS
REMOVED AND SAVED FOR LATER USE IF NECESSARY IN THE DRAW PILE.
DISCARD PILES:
EACH PLAYER MAINTAINS UP TO 4 DISCARD PILES. ALL CARDS ARE PLAYED ONTO THESE
PILES FACE-UP, AND ONLY THE TOP CARD IS AVAILABLE FOR PLAY.
PLAY:
THE FIRST PLAYER IS THE NON-DEALER.
ON EACH PLAYER'S TURN, HE DRAWS FROM THE DRAW PILE TO REPLENISH HIS HAND TO
5 CARDS (INITIALLY EACH PLAYER HAS 0 HAND CARDS SO HE DRAWS 5). <THE COMPUTER
AUTOMATICALLY DRAWS FOR YOU.>
AFTER DRAWING, THE PLAYER MAKES ALL THE PLAYS HE CAN AND THEN DISCARDS ONE OF
HIS HAND CARDS INTO ONE OF HIS DISCARD PILES TO END HIS MOVE. IF HE USES ALL
5 OF HIS HAND CARDS THEN HE DRAWS 5 MORE AND CONTINUES.
HE MAY PLAY ANY HAND CARD OR ANY CARD FROM THE TOP OF HIS STOCK PILE OR ONE OF
HIS DISCARD PILES TO A BUILDING PILE IF IT IS LEGAL (IN SEQUENCE OR A SKIPPO
CARD).
DRAW PILE:
IF THE DRAW PILE IS USED UP, THE COMPLETED (BUILT UP TO 12) BUILDING PILES ARE
SHUFFLED AND BECOME THE NEW DRAW PILE.
TO ENTER A MOVE:
JUST POINT THE MOUSE AT THE 'FROM' CARD AND CLICK THE MOUSE, THEN POINT TO THE
'TO' CARD POSITION AND CLICK THE MOUSE. TO ENTER A MOVE FROM THE KEYBOARD JUST
TYPE IN THE CODE FOR THE 'FROM' AND 'TO' CARD POSITIONS AS DISPLAYED ON THE
SCREEN (1..5 FOR YOUR HAND CARDS, A..D FOR THE BUILDING PILES, E..H FOR YOUR
DISCARD PILES, S FOR YOUR STOCK CARD) -- E.G., "1A", "1E", "EA", "SA", "SD".
GAME AND MATCH:
THE FIRST PLAYER TO USE ALL HIS STOCK CARDS WINS THE GAME, WINNING 25 POINTS
PLUS 5 POINTS FOR EACH CARD REMAINING IN HIS OPPONENTS' STOCK PILES.
THE FIRST PLAYER TO WIN 500 POINTS WINS THE MATCH. THE MATCH POINT CAN BE
VARIED AS DESIRED FROM 100 TO 9999 POINTS BEFORE A MATCH BEGINS. MATCH SCORES
ARE AUTOMATICALLY SAVED ON DISK BY THE COMPUTER ON FILE SKIP.SCR.
SHORT GAME:
WITH THIS OPTION EACH PLAYER IS DEALT 10 RATHER THAN 30 CARDS INITIALLY.
OPEN HANDS OPTION:
FOR DEMONSTRATION AND LEARNING PURPOSES, ALL HANDS CAN BE PLAYED FACE UP.
REPLAY HAND OPTION:
AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH HAND, YOU HAVE THE OPTION OF REPLAYING THE LAST HAND.
OF COURSE YOU CAN USE THIS TO GAIN AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE ON THE COMPUTER, BUT
THIS IS A TOY AFTER ALL, AND YOU ARE BOSS. (FUNCTION KEY F6 CONTROLS WHETHER
